Over the years, it has become more and more acceptable for females to establish names for themselves in a world that is mostly dominated by men: the political world. Women in politics is a fairly new idea, since females only gained the right to vote during the late nineteen-twenties. It was not really until the late twentieth century that female politicians began to be taken seriously.
Due mostly in part to brave females of days past who marched in Suffrage parades and demanded to be given their Constitutional rights, male and females alike are both considered equally legitimate. Ladies have become among the most instrumental people in guiding the nation towards certain policies or situations.
For example, Nancy Pelosi was recently the Majority Leader of Washington's House of Representatives in Washington D. C, also making her Speaker of the House, the first female in history. She now sits as Minority Leader of her Democratic Party and lends quite a bit of influence to everything that goes on at the White House.
All of these kinds of events add to the profound lens that is trained on the females of a large political field. Janet Napolitano, the head of Department of Homeland Security, has broken gender barriers merely by being a female that's currently holding a position that oversees national security issues.
Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is a well-known advocate of Universal Healthcare and the encouragement of Second Amendment Laws. Governor Jan Brewer has gained almost worldwide attention for her firm stance on immigration policies due to the amount of immigration problems that abound in her state of Arizona. Of late she has counter-sued the Federal Government for acting in an unconstitutional lawsuit against her immigration laws.
Modernly, the role of a First Lady at the White House has changed from charming hostess to diplomat. She now travels and campaigns with her husband, attends diplomatic meetings sometimes in his stead and spends her time championing political causes that are close to her heart.
There is no doubt that the ladies of America play an important role in shaping the future.
