The Political History Of Israel Conflict Palestine

By B. Hardboss

In the year 1948 the state of Israel was declared independent, which commenced the Israel conflict. Jews had been looking for a permanent homeland for a long time since they were being persecuted in many parts of Europe. The surrounding Arab Nations viewed this as a "land grab" by Israel, starting the Israel conflicts over the last 50-years. The Israel conflict started when the Zionist movement was formed for the purpose of fighting for a Jewish homeland. When the movement managed to gain international support Israel was born and Jewish from all corners of the earth moved into it.

After independence David Ben-Gurion became the prime minister for 15 years and the Government was headed by the Labor Party for 29 years. During this period the country experienced a high growth rate in both population and economy. Levi Eshkol succeeded David in 1963 and formed the Government with the Herut movement. During this time the Israel conflict commonly referred to as the Six day War broke out which was against Egypt and Palestine. This Israel conflict was won markedly by Israel. After Levi died in 1969 Golda Meir took over but when the Yom Kippur War broke out in 1973 he resigned. Once again this Israel conflict was ended in Israel's victory.

Yitzhak Rabin headed the next government starting 1974 and signed peace accords with Egypt and Syria. During this time the Soviet bloc and many African countries broke off their ties with Israel.

In 1977 the Lukid bloc defeated the Labor party and was headed by Menachem Begin. Begin reached a peace agreement with Egypt in 1979 that entailed yielding land to Egypt in exchange for peace, ending Israel conflict with Egypt. Likud's privatization plans got out of control and inflation went up, the stock market crashed. In the 1982 Israel conflict with lebanon, there was the Lebanon War which caused resignation of Begin and he was succeeded by Yitzhak Shamir. In 1984 Labor party leader Perez served as prime minister and he was able to curb inflation and stabilize the economy and also withdraw troops from Lebanon.

In 1988 the Israel conflict known as the Gaza War where Israel was struck by 39 scud missiles from Iraq. In 1992, under Rabin's leadership the Labor party formed the government. Rabin was a former defense minister.

Palestine was awarded autonomy in 1994 in the West Bank and Gaza strip. Following this a peace treaty was signed with Jordan and international relations with other countries also improved, significantly reducing Israel conflicts. In 1995 Rabin was assassinated.

In 1996 a direct election polling system was introduced and Benjamin Netanyahu was elected to take office. The Government was dissolved due to instability in 1999 and he lost his seat to Ehud Barak. In 2001 Ariel Sharon was elected Prime Minister. In 2003 a coalition between USA and Israel Governments invaded Iraq and Saddam was captured. The potential for an Israel conflict was high, which could have united the Arab communities. Sharons health deteriorated and in 2005 Ehud Olmert took over as Prime Minister.
