Sometimes it can feel like we are always in the midst of an election and, indeed, with all day political coverage and pundits we are inundated with information. This overflow can be hard to reconcile when voters think about whether to re-elect Obama for another term. Making a good choice means attempting to be as objective as possible and seeing the process for what it actually is.
The previous Bush administration left quite a few problems that had been building for years which are not easily fixed. The tax cuts that had been implemented at the beginning of the twenty first century that protect the rich have not been repealed and have contributed to a massive disparate between the rich and poor.
A big issue that has gotten worse are the tax cuts in benefit of the rich that have been steady for almost a decade. Because of this policy there is a bigger divide between classes than ever before, with a small population holding a majority of all of the money.
This was the result of bad lending practices that have caused millions to fall into default. Wall street, a player in all of this was a beneficiary of bailouts and this was looked upon, by the public, as an injustice. As personal as many of us took the bailouts, they were a necessity to keep the economy from getting worse.
And this is the main issue, what we think of as unfair or a waste of policy is really the president trying to deal with a crisis that was handed to him from the past. Like putting a band aid on a bullet hole, things can get messy trying to help.
The job that our president had to take on was incredibly daunting and required a good bit of damage control. A good look will show that while he has tried to get things done he's been thwarted at every turn through the actions of career politicians that are clogging up the Senate and House of Representative.
