The Modern Independent Political Party

By Shelly Clayton

The independent political party is not affiliated with a major political party. Their views are usually on the edge or in between those of Republicans and Democrats. On the other hand, sometimes their views are more extreme. Some independents support a major political party candidate or even the party itself but choose not to represent the party formally due to the rigid policies.

The American Independent party was established in 1967 and has a platform stating they acknowledge God as the Creator and the giver of rights such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They believe in God-given duties, such as cooperating with, be at peace with, and love others.

Independents and other minor political parties typically do not fare well in elections. This is mainly due to a lack of funds, unlike the other main parties that are able to generate millions of campaign dollars. They are also not a traditional party, which also makes it hard to compete with Democrats and Republicans.

Independents believe people have the right to bear arms and protect themselves and their family. They are against all forms of illegal immigration and support a secure border.

Independents and other minor parties usually do not fare well in elections due to the fact that they do not have the financial campaigning resources or the traditional hold on politics that the Democratic and Republican parties have.

There are two basic types of independent parties: ideological and transient. Transient parties are known to rise and fall again very quickly, while ideological parties have a long campaign history and are known to stick to their beliefs at all costs.
