Herman Cain A 2012 Republican Presidential Candidate

By Derek Thomas

After his official announcement that he would be forming an exploratory committee to run for president in 2012, Herman Cain has faced a lot of questions about his ability to survive a republican primary and not to mention topple Obama in the general election. However, there has been a lot of talk about the other republican hopefuls for president in 2012 and it's looking pretty bleak for them due to their past policy and personal life issues.

He believes in making it illegal for doctors to kill unborn children, protecting the sanctity of marriage, and has the business background to put our economy back on track. While some naysayers doubt his electability he has a true shot at taking Obama out of office. Just why do I believe this? He has well thought out ideas on fixing the failing economy by eliminating the regulations that are bankrupting our businesses all around the country, cutting taxes, and making government smaller.

With a exhaustive resume that outlines business experience in many major US corporations, Cain might just have the know-how to get us our of our economic mess. The former syndicated conservative talk show host has experience as a CEO of the major pizza chain Godfather's Pizza, as a business analyst for Coke, and an executive for the Pillsbury company. With this experience in the private sector he says he knows how we can solve the economic crisis. The first is to get major businesses to start hiring again and we can do that only by making major tax reform and deregulate harmful laws to businesses. This he argues, will allow businesses to grow and become more profitable, thus hire more workers. If more Americans are working, then they will have a steady income stream that they can invest back into the American economy.

He argues that congress should have made the Bush tax cuts permanent rather than merely extending them for only two years. He further states that taxes should not only be cut, but that we should implement a fair tax. The fair tax plan involves doing away with the IRS by abolishing the payroll, income and corporate taxes then implementing a sales tax at the federal level. This means people would only be responsible for pay taxes for consumer goods and services. Again, he argues, businesses can't grow when government is taking a major share of earned profits. In 1994 when Bill and Hillary Clinton were establishing their version of health care reform, that later was rejected, Cain appeared in a town hall forum where Bill Clinton was speaking. Cain asked Clinton what he is supposed to tell his employees after he is forced to lay many of them off for mandated government health care costs. Clinton responded by saying the costs for his health care plan would only increase business expense by one-and-a-half percent. Cain responded by telling Clinton his calculation is incorrect.

Rather than just doing the talking, as he has been on his Atlanta based conservative talk show, Herman Cain said he would like to actually act on his ideas and he feels this is the best timing for a 2012 presidential run. With the other candidates in the field looking wounded before the battle starts, Cain is someone to consider as the many months of debate push forward.
